November 1-3, 2007- Dr. Norman Okamura and Kaina Lingaton visited the Community Health Network of West Virginia’s Clay County Primary Care System where they met with Dr. Sarah Chouinard (Medical Director), David Campbell (CEO), and Jack Shafer (CIO). They also visited with David Taylor and Chris Lamer at the Cherokee Indian Hospital in North Carolina.
The purpose of the visits was to see the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) developed by the Indian Health Service (IHS). Dr. Okamura was very "impressed with the way in which Dr. Chouinard has implemented the RPM as a health improvement tool" and how the application was integrated within their workflow. The model used for implementing Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in community health centers in West Virginia has great potential for expanding in Hawaii. We look forward to great future partnerships with the IHS and Community Health Network of West Virginia to further the expansion of affordable EHR systems in rural areas.
