Hawaii Telehealth Collaborative Symposium

Key stakeholders were invited to participate in the “Hawai’i Telehealth Collaborative Symposium” on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Queen’s Conference Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i. The stakeholders were asked to develop a strategic plan for the future of telehealth in Hawai’i and brought together this group of participants that represented a broad range of interests in the field.

A primary objective of the meeting was to initiate the development of a collaborative organization to further the advancement of telehealth in the State of Hawai’i. The mission of the collaborative will be to help us work together to improve our overall coordination of various telehealth resources, services, and technologies to improve access to and delivery of healthcare in Hawai’i.  A second objective of this meeting was to establish the five highest priority actions for the next five years. The action plans will be incorporated into a strategic plan for the proposed collaborative.

This symposium provided an opportunity for invitees to share thoughts and concerns related to Telehealth with other members of the healthcare community. The major portion of the symposium was dedicated to active participation in small breakout sessions guided by professional facilitators. This was not meant to be an informational conference. In order to maximize participation in the discussions, attendance has been limited to 120 selected individuals. All participants received pre-symposium material that included information regarding the history of telehealth in Hawai’i, current programs and resources, and other material to allow active participation in the symposium. The symposium was partially funded by a grant from the HMSA Foundation to the University of Hawai’i Telehealth Research Institute.
